JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Position: Lifeguard

Department: Operations

Reports to: Technical and Maintenance Manager

 

Job Overview: The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all students, staff, and visitors using the swimming pool facilities. The role involves monitoring pool activities, enforcing safety regulations, responding to emergencies, administering first aid when required, and supporting the safe delivery of swimming lessons and aquatic activities. The Lifeguard plays a key role in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming aquatic environment in accordance with school policies and health and safety regulations.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Pool Safety & Supervision
  • Monitor all swimming pool activities to ensure the safety of students, staff, and visitors.
  • Maintain constant surveillance of pool users and identify potential hazards or unsafe behaviour.
  • Enforce pool rules and safety procedures at all times.
  • Prevent accidents through proactive supervision and intervention when necessary.
  • Ensure the pool area remains safe, secure, and free from hazards.

 

  1. Emergency Response
  • Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies and rescue situations.
  • Administer first aid, CPR, and other emergency care when required.
  • Activate emergency procedures and coordinate with relevant personnel as necessary.
  • Complete incident and accident reports accurately and promptly.

 

  1. Facility Management
  • Conduct routine inspections of the pool and surrounding facilities.
  • Monitor and record pool water quality parameters, including pH level, chlorine level, water clarity, and hygiene standards, and report any abnormalities immediately
  • Ensure rescue and first aid equipment is available, operational, and properly maintained.
  • Report maintenance issues, safety concerns, or equipment defects immediately.
  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards within the pool area.

 

  1. Support for School Programs
  • Support swimming lessons, aquatic activities, competitions, and school events as required.
  • Assist teachers and coaches in maintaining a safe learning environment during swimming sessions.
  • Help manage student movement and supervision before, during, and after pool activities.

 

  1. Compliance & Record Keeping
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, inspections, and safety checks.
  • Comply with school policies, safeguarding procedures, and health and safety regulations.
  • Participate in safety drills, training sessions, and professional development activities.

 

  1. Undertake other duties as reasonably assigned by the line manager.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Lifeguard Certification.
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Previous experience working as a lifeguard or in a similar safety-related role.
  • Strong swimming and water rescue skills.
