Anne Hill School Science Fair 2024

From the 13th to the 17th of May, Anne Hill International School proudly celebrated its 2nd Annual Science Fair. This event, designed to cultivate a passion for science among students, was a resounding success. Here’s a closer look at how our young scientists embarked on their journey of discovery.

Independent Student Projects with Parental Support

Our science fair emphasises student independence. While parents play a supporting role, the primary responsibility lies with the students. Over three to four weeks, students researched potential project topics across various scientific disciplines, including biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science. This approach fostered a sense of ownership and personal investment in their projects.

From Proposal to Presentation: The Project Journey

The process began with each student submitting a project proposal form to their homeroom teacher. This form outlined the main topic or question their experiment aimed to address. Once approved, students delved into their research, utilising both books and online resources to gather information and develop their projects. Consequently, this methodical approach ensured thorough preparation and in-depth knowledge.

Crafting the Project: Posters and Presentations

A critical component of the science fair was the creation of a three-fold poster. This visual representation of their research and findings allowed students to showcase their work creatively. Additionally, each student delivered a three-minute oral presentation to their class and teacher. Thus, this not only honed their public speaking skills but also ensured they had a deep understanding of their subject matter.

The Path to Recognition: Projects were evaluated based on content, organisation, and presentation quality. The top three projects from each class advanced to a school-level competition. The highest-scoring projects in each year group were awarded prizes, recognising the exceptional effort and scientific acumen of our students. Therefore, this competitive element motivated students to excel.

Celebrating Achievements

Parents joined us in celebrating the students’ hard work and achievements. On Friday, 17 May, at 8:20 AM, completed projects were on display for parents to view, followed by an awards ceremony to honour the winners. This event fostered a sense of community and shared pride in the students’ accomplishments.

The 2nd Annual Science Fair at Anne Hill International School was more than just a week of events; it was a journey that encouraged our students to explore, question, and innovate. We are immensely proud of all participants and look forward to nurturing their scientific curiosity in the years to come.
