Teacher Librarian

REPORTS TO: HEAD OF SCHOOL

Overview

This Job Description is to be read in conjunction with and as an addendum to the Class Teacher’s Job Description. Consistent with school policies, the Teacher Librarian will be responsible for the following key objectives:

  • To successfully manage the Library, establishing goals and expectations with both staff and students to ensure that the resources are used to maximum potential.
  • To ensure that the resourcing of the Library meets the teaching and learning goals across all sections of the school
  • To promote and participate in ongoing staff learning, training and development.
  • To teach classes as required, particularly in relation to the Library, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the day to day running of the Library
  • Responsible for ensuring that the Library collection meets the needs of the School’s programmes, the Definition of High-Quality Learning and the school’s commitment to global citizenship.
  • Responsible for developing a library skills continuum within IPC.
  • Responsible for creating and implementing the Library development plan in line with the Schools’ mission, vision and values.
  • Responsible for the cataloguing and circulation of materials
  • Responsible for maintaining the Library collection – stocktaking, ordering and culling the collection
  • Overseeing the use of all library and equipment
  • Overseeing the maintenance and updating of the Library Database
  • Regular review of Library Database operating system
  • Assist and train students and staff in using library systems and technologies
  • Responsible for preparing and operating the Library budget for purchase of new resources
  • Review the library usage data and use this to determine needs for budgeting
  • Liaising with teaching staff with regards to needs and new resources
  • Maintain access to online accounts, software subscriptions and subscribed periodicals
  • Attending Faculty Meetings to keep up-to-date with school developments
  • Attending planning meetings to provide support to subject areas/grade levels
  • Ensuring that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information
  • Empowering students to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, effective researchers and ethical users of information
  • Teaching students in small and large groups
  • Working with teachers to build and support curriculum programmes
  • Collaborating with teachers to design and teach for meaningful learning experiences within the programmes of learning
  • Collaboration with language teachers to promote access to levelled readers
  • Providing leadership and expertise in selection, acquisition, evaluation and organization of information resources and technologies in all formats, as well as expertise in the ethical use of information
  • Creating an environment where collaboration and creative problem solving thrive
  • Creating and maintaining a teaching and learning environment that is inviting, safe, flexible and conducive to student learning
  • Any other duties as directed by the Academic Leadership Team.
Qualifications: ·        A recognized bachelor’s degree in education preferred, or a bachelor degree with major in  English linguistics/literature, library and information science, or equivalent.

·        A strong commitment to student welfare and student well-being.

·        Knowledge and understanding of current educational thinking related to assessment and the integration of technology.

·        Understanding of trends of publishing, school libraries and international education.

Experience: At least two years working in the international school library setting or being a Librarian.
